Dr. Arani in Los Angeles Marks Two Decades Dedicated to Improving Treatment, Recurrence Prevention and Cosmetic Outcomes for Patients With HPV-Related Warts
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — September 30, 2026 — Arani Medical Center and D.A.M.L. Medical Laboratory today announced the approaching 20-year milestone of HPV BCR™, a microsurgical treatment approach developed to address HPV-related benign epithelial growths, including genital and anal warts, with particular attention to reducing recurrence at treated sites and achieving highly favorable cosmetic outcomes.
First introduced by Dr. Arani in 2007, the three-step HPV BCR™ microsurgical method grew out of a question that shaped the direction of his medical career: Why were patients repeatedly returning for treatment of
HPV-related warts after conventional destruction of individual lesions?

“During my rotations and clinical training, including the dermatology portion of my internal medicine training, I learned the conventional methods used to treat HPV-related warts,” said Siavash Arani, M.D. “But I kept asking myself why we were treating the same patients over and over with methods such as cryotherapy or acid while knowing that many would return with recurrent growths. I eventually realized that removing a wart was one challenge, while preventing recurrence at the treated area was another. I combined those two objectives, and HPV BCR™ was born.”
From Wart Removal to a Comprehensive Treatment Strategy
Rather than focusing solely on destruction of the visible wart, HPV BCR™ was developed as a multi-step microsurgical approach addressing the HPV-related epithelial growth at the treated site.
The technique utilizes magnification and microsurgical instrumentation to identify and remove abnormal growths while preserving as much surrounding healthy tissue as possible. Dr. Arani Medical describes the procedure as designed to be minimally traumatic and essentially bloodless, with an emphasis on patient comfort, minimal scarring and a natural cosmetic appearance after healing.
Over nearly two decades, Dr. Arani’s practice reports treating patients with HPV-related conditions from across the United States and around the world, including individuals who sought treatment after experiencing recurrent growths following previous therapies.
For Dr. Arani, cosmetic outcome has remained an important component of successful treatment — particularly because genital and anal HPV-related growths affect highly sensitive and intimate areas of the body.
“Successful treatment cannot be measured only by whether the visible wart is gone that day,” Dr. Arani said. “We have to think about what happens afterward — healing, recurrence and how the treated skin will look. Our objective has always been to achieve the best possible long-term and cosmetic outcome for the patient.”
A Medical Career Dedicated to HPV
Dr. Arani’s work with HPV extends beyond clinical treatment.
After receiving his M.D. degree in 1999, he completed postgraduate clinical training that included Mayo Clinic Hospital and Maricopa Medical Center in Arizona. He later received faculty appointments at Loma Linda University School of Medicine, first as an Instructor of Medicine in 2002 and subsequently as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine in 2003.
In 2004, he established an STD/HPV diagnostic and treatment institution in California, followed by the establishment of D.A.M.L., a laboratory focused on sexually transmitted infections, in 2006.
His increasing focus on HPV ultimately led to the introduction of the BCR method in 2007.
Dr. Arani also authored two books devoted substantially to HPV, genital warts and their management: HPV, The Silent Intruder and Condyloma Acuminatum: Cutting the Epidemic. His writings reflect a career-long emphasis on patient education and finding better approaches to difficult and recurrent HPV-related growths.
HPV BCR™ Receives Federal Trademark Registration
The name HPV BCR™ subsequently received federal trademark protection in the United States.
The HPV BCR trademark application was filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on June 7, 2021, for medical and surgical services involving removal of abnormal epithelial growths.
The mark was officially registered on the USPTO Principal Register on July 26, 2022, under Registration No. 6,801,318, recognizing HPV BCR in connection with these medical and surgical services.
The federal registration represented another milestone in a treatment concept that Dr. Arani had begun using clinically years earlier.
Patients Became Part of the HPV BCR™ Story
According to Dr. Arani Medical, one of the most meaningful aspects of the past two decades has been hearing from patients who continued to share their experiences long after treatment.
K. Rafiee, Media Director for D.A.M.L., said:
“We are extremely pleased to have encountered so many happy patients over the years who received treatment from Dr. Arani and later shared their experiences with us. For our organization, these patients represent the most meaningful part of the HPV BCR™ story. Many came to us frustrated after previous treatments and simply wanted a lasting solution with an excellent cosmetic result. Seeing those patients return years later and tell us how their lives have changed has been tremendously rewarding.”
Patients have traveled to Southern California from across the United States and internationally seeking evaluation and treatment at Dr. Arani’s center.
As HPV BCR™ approaches its 20th anniversary in 2027, Dr. Arani says the philosophy behind the procedure remains the same as when he began developing it: treatment should go beyond simply destroying what can be seen.
“Nearly twenty years later, I still believe that removing the wart is only part of our responsibility,” Dr. Arani said. “The greater challenge is giving the patient the best opportunity to remain free of recurrent growth at the treated site while preserving the natural appearance of the skin. That principle has guided HPV BCR™ from the beginning.”
